Years and years ago I saw a TV show on the travel channel about the best amusement parks in the world. The one that intrigued me the most was in, shocker, Las Vegas! Vegas is home to an extremely tall observation tower at one of the hotels called The Stratosphere. At the top of said tower are three thrill rides:
- Big Shot
Adult – $20.00
Child – $12.00
Seniors and Nevada Residents – $14.00
Big Shot – $15.00
X-Scream – $15.00
Insanity – $15.00
SkyJump – $119.99 and up
EXTREME VALUE PACKAGES*
Tower Admission + All Day Unlimited Rides – $36
Tower Admission + 3 Rides – $35
Tower Admission + 2 Rides – $30
Tower Admission +1 ride – $25
Express Pass – additional $10.00
Of course, hanging out 1,000 feet over the strip sounds like a dream to me, so I had to do it. My roommate/travel buddy and I walked to the hotel and took the long elevator ride up to the top. I must admit, I got pretty nervous before I jumped on the rides but after giving myself a pep talk and a few deep breaths, I was ready to ride. My roommate Laura, isn’t much of a thrill seeker but she very kindly documented my experiences aboard my multiple rides. (Sadly, one was closed due to high winds, but it involved spinning which is not my favorite sensation in the world, so it’s all good.)
The first ride (Big Shot) is a general dropping ride but the fact that you are already 1,000 ft up, adds a little extra fire. It’s an amazing view of Vegas and I did it both at sunset and with the sparkling, neon lights lit up.
The second ride (X-Scream) is only worth it if you sit in the front (which of course I did both times!) It is a roller coaster type car that slides you out of a track and has you hanging over the streets of Vegas. Super amazing and I even bonded with my seat mate because her husband was to frightened to join her.
I full heartedly recommend going to the Stratosphere if you ever visit Vegas!! If thrill rides aren’t your thing then just go check out the amazing view!
Would you ever dare attempt these thrills?
